World Cup 2010

The World Cup has been consuming my life. South Korea played today against Nigeria. We were favored to win, but it ended up being a draw, 2-2. I've been a bit disappointed with the way South Korea has been playing thus far in World Cup 2010. I know it's because I keep comparing their performance back to 2002 when South Korea and Japan co-hosted the World Cup. It was absolutely AMAZING that we made it to the semi-finals that year. Never had we accomplished that in soccer/football (call it what you like) field of the World Cup. I remember getting up at 4 am to watch games with my family and friends. Everyone was so excited! Who knew that we could beat ITALY of all countries. It truly was unbelievable. I know with tonight's draw we've advanced to the Round of 16 with Argentina in our group... but I just seriously wonder how much further we will advance. At the rate we're playing, it looks like our match with Uruguay may be our final one. Of course that's NOT what I wish for, but I have to be realistic here. Even if South Korea goes out, I know I'll still have USA to root for! Which, their 3rd game will be tomorrow morning against Algeria. I'm fairly certain we'll win, but you just never know with these things!

i.e. see image below!!

Ahn Jung-Hwan's winning goal against Italy in 2002!! We were all up on our feet for that one!

All right... so a busy day awaits me tomorrow. One that involves soccer, working out, and working on my research project! :)

VCA Externship

So it's finally summer summer summer time and I'm back in good old California. I'm doing an externship at VCA while I'm here and it so happens that it's at the same VCA I worked at before I started vet school where I worked as a tech. It's great to see everyone again. I really love everyone that works at VCA Central. :) It's a big multi-doctor emergency hospital, which is the kind of environment I want to work in when I finish vet school. Mike and I don't know if we're going to come back to So Cal, or Denver or maybe even Nor Cal... but we want something along the lines of those options. Anyway, I'm having a great time back at the VCA. It was funny because the other day I was sitting on the couch in the break room, just lounging on my lunch break and Jeremiah (receptionist that has worked there for a long time) came in and stared at me for a few seconds and said, "OMG! Karen! What are you doing here?! It's like you're right where I left you on the couch!" It just made me laugh. :)

Yesterday I was on surgery with Ciara (awesome awesome vet and person!) and I did part of a neuter (my first)! It's great that a lot of the people I used to work with as a tech are still there because they let me do a lot since they remember me you know? I think I have 2 more surgery days and they are with Dr. Beeley, who is a KSU grad. I hope he gives me much needed insight. I've only done 2 days there and I'm already feeling exhausted. Tis bad! Although I am exhausted, I am happy that I'm in a clinic and learning and truly retaining the information since I can remember experiences and not just words out of lectures/textbooks. It's awesome. I can't wait for 4th year although I know that it will come soon enough and with a vengeance!
